JOURNEY TO THE CRADLE OF LIGHT RUM

The Oriente region has been known as the Cradle of Light Rum since 1862 and Santiago de Cuba is the city where the tradition of the Ron Ligero Cubano found its origins.  

Here, the baking heat of the Caribbean sun, the humidity of the land and the sea perfectly entwine to create the optimum conditions for cultivating sugar cane, enriching the ageing process and bringing depth to our unique liquid.

Rum is the soul of Cuba and what makes it unique can be broken down into three elements: the raw materi als, the method of ageing and blending, and the expertise of the Maestros del Ron Cubano.                                                                                                                                                                The sugarcane from the south-east of the island is unique. Imbued with minerality from the sea and aromatically sweet. The microflora of this land where the sugarcane is cultivated helps us to guarantee the unique flavour of this Cuban rum. They juice only the best to make their molasses that combines high sugar levels, low acidity, and low viscosity, making it perfect for distilling. This fresh nectar is fermented, distilled and charcoal filtered to refine its delicate, dry character.

It is aged in only white oak barrels, in the Don Pancho warehouse, renowned as ‘the cathedral of Cuban rum’. Its unique location is so close to the train tracks that legend tells the barrels tremble when they pass, influencing the ageing process.



BORN FROM THE PASSION OF THE MAESTROS DEL RON CUBANO

Among all the rums produced in the world, those from Cuba stand alone. In 2010, the CUBA Denominación de Origen Protegida (dop) was granted to Cuban rum, guaranteeing that they are produced in the traditional manner, according to strict, specific criteria. 

Genuine Cuban rums carry a green guarantee sticker to certify they have been made there with 100% Cuban ingredients. The D.O.P is an additional certification on top of this that ensures strict standards and quality levels are maintained.

All Cuban rums are aged in white oak barrels, and all of them, including the ‘white’ rums, are aged for a second time after blending. The process of blending, together with the use of different types of casks to bring out subtle variations of flavour, forms the age-old expertise of the Cuban rum masters.

This legacy, alongside the climate of the south east, the Cuban way of creating rum, and the combination of new barrels with some aged for many years, results in a liquid impossible to recreate outside of its geographical and cultural context.

For over 8 generations the Maestros del Ron Cubano of the city of Santiago de Cuba have followed their tradition and experience rather than a recipe, creating a rum with rhythm and soul that dances in the glass, always dreaming of something better.

Aged in white oak barrels, clean and elegant with touches of freshly cut sugar cane and aged spirits, Ron Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca is the best choice for preparing a cocktail. 

Nose : Aromatic and light with aromas of vanilla, anise and powder.                                                                                                                                                                                

Mouth : Excellent balance of sweetness and flavours on the palate with vanilla and cinnamon predominating.

Finish : clean and elegant aftertaste, with a slight hint of bitter almond.

Classic Cuban rum, with 8 years of aging in old oak barrels, lighter in style with typical aging notes. Extremely balanced, with undeniably smooth and delicate flavours of tropical fruit, honey, vanilla and cocoa. A rum that has matured well in cask and leaves a taste of natural sweetness with subtle spicy notes. The perfect choice for cocktails or just straight up with ice.

Nose: Tropical fruit, coconut, subtle aromas of vanilla and almond. Nutmeg, cinnamon 

Mouth: A delightful sweetness perfectly balanced with a moderate spiciness from ageing. Dominated by butterscotch, burnt wood, leather and sweet spices.

Finish: Strong finish, with a full velvety and oily body. Long peppery finish.

EXTRA AÑEJO 11 Y.Ο
EXTRA AÑEJO 11 Y.Ο

Aged in carefully selected white oak barrels, a unique blend of the natural sweetness of sugar cane molasses and the subtle touch of Maestros. Classic Cuban rum aroma that has evolved well in the barrel. Light and balanced with a deep and intense nose, persistent and smooth finish. An ideal choice "on the rocks".

 Nose : Tropical fruit, coconut, subtle aromas of vanilla and almond. Nutmeg, cinnamon

 Mouth : A delightful sweetness perfectly balanced with a moderate spiciness from ageing. Dominated by butterscotch, burnt wood, leather and sweet spices.                                 

 Finish : A strong finish, with a full velvety and oily body. Long peppery finish.

With wisdom passed down from generation to generation, from the 19th century to the present day, Maestros have captured the spirit of the streets of Santiago in a bottle full of magic and rhythm. For at least two decades, this glowing amber liquid has rested beside some of the oldest warehouses in Cuba, absorbing the sounds of Santiago de Cuba, waiting for the right moment to dance in the glass.

Nose : Carries notes of intense, well-developed and aged rum. Thanks to the aguardiente's aging in white oak barrels, an excellent combination of fruits is noticeable.

Mouth: An elegant and bold rum. On the palate it is full and smooth, with a harmonious balance between sweet and dry, leaving notes reminiscent of coffee, cocoa and chocolate.

Finish: Rich and long aftertaste of cocoa, coffee and well-integrated oak, ending with notes of spices and caramel.
