At the foot of Pieria and next to the lake of Polyfytos, 33 kilometers south-east of Kozani, is Velvedo, a picturesque town in Western Macedonia.
In Velvedo, as in all of Macedonia, grape growing has deep roots and a long tradition. The climate is continental, but it is significantly influenced by the proximity to the lake of Polyphytos and the constant presence of winds.
Near the lake, on the site of an old vineyard belonging to the Vogiatzis family, a new, modern vineyard of 30 acres was created in the period 1991-1994, with local and other varieties and the vison to produce high quality wines, which combine specificity and character.
The Boyatzis family has its own history in the wine trade, which is recorded since the beginning of the century, when large quantities of wines from the Belvedo region were transported and sold in the developing, at that time, city of Katerini, where the family settled, maintaining a wine -ouzo tavern until 1992.
From the third generation, Yiannis, after his studies in oenology at the University of Bordeaux, France, and significant experience in Greek wine production, with his brother Nikos, a mechanical engineer and their father Charisis, decide to return to Velvedo and create a new, privately owned vineyard. The on-site management of the winery is carried out by the chemist-oenologist Irini Zande, while the vineyards are looked after with great care and love by Nikos and Dimitris.
"I say that a wine is a creation. I imagined it... somehow, and tried to create it..."
Yannis Vogiatzis.

From grapes of the Xinomavro variety, a clone that thrives in Velvento region, at Kozani. The 2021 vintage was the first year that a small percentage of the total quantity started fermentation with indigenous yeasts following the “pied de cuve” technique. A small quantity of grapes was harvested and pressed immediately into tanks in our vineyard, taking advantage of the population of yeasts endemic there. The alcoholic fermentation of the entire grape juice take place in the tanks. The extraction of the bark components is careful and the time depends on the maturity of the crop. The new wine is transferred to French oak barrels, where it matures for a year and then is bottled and further aged. It presents a deep purple color, noble typical aroma of the variety, which involves the classic olive - tomato with dried cherry - plum fruits, earthy notes and spices. In the mouth the integrated tannins compose a robust body with backbone, harmony and a very long duration. A seductive wine, with the aristocratic distinctive character of the variety.
